Au Ver a Soie Ephemera Silk

Au Ver a Soie Ephemera Silk

These are pure silk threads, manufactured in France by the historical embroidery company Au Ver A Soie which has been producing fine silk threads since 1820. Ephemera silk threads are very similar to Pearsall's Gossamer / Langley Threads which is sadly no longer manufactured - both in diameter, being a true three strand twist (approx' 4/0) and in strength. To ensure uniformity and great colour saturation, these threads are dyed in floats ( full hanks). As with Pearsall's, this material will benefit from waxing which partly preserves your flies (stops them rotting as silk is a natural material) and will subtly change the colour of the silk.Whilst they are not an exact copy of the original Pearsall's colours (which used to change slightly per dyed batch!) , they are very close to the familiar shades we recognise for various authentic recipes. For instance, the "Golden Yellow" is very close to the original No.4 (Waterhen Bloa, etc) and the "Orange" is ideal for a Partridge & Orange - or try the "Burnt Orange" in place of the old No. 19 - Pearsall's Hot Orange. The silk comes on beautiful wooden spools with a centre drilled hole, which fit a normal sized bobbin holder perfectly. 100 metre spools makes this very good value for money.

A very generous 100 metes per spool!
